Canton Cricket Club, a local cricket club established by Pakistani expatriates in Guangzhou, China, has donated ¥300,000 for flood victims in KP, Pakistan.
The funds were raised through a charity cricket tournament held in October in Guangzhou, said CEO Pak-China Overseas Community (PCOC) Shaukat Ali Safi. The local Chinese enterprises and factory owners also donated generously for the cause together with the money collected from tickets and participation fees, he said. Twelve teams comprising expatriates from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan participated in the tournament, Safi said.
The funds were transferred to the PCOC members in Pakistan, who arranged ration and winter stuff including blankets and mattresses as well as medicines, which were distributed in Kumrat and Varri areas of District Dir Upper in KP, Safi said. The local PCOC members distributed ration and winter stuff packages among over 500 families in Kumrat and over 100 families in Varri area on November 27, Safi said.
Kumrat is a scenic valley in northern Pakistan and was among the first areas hit by the recent floods. Varri is an adjacent area.
“We had also raised PKR 25 million for Pakistani flood victims and provided relief packages in Sindh and Balochistan in September,” he said.
