Chinese Model in cotton production suggested

Punjab Provincial Minister for Energy, Industries, and Commerce Mr. SM Tanveer on Tuesday emphasized the implementation of the Chinese Model in cotton production to achieve high-quality and abundant crops.

During a virtual meeting of the government officials and growers, the minister highlighted the significance of adopting modern technology to enhance per-acre productivity.

Saqib Ali Ateel, secretary of agriculture in south Punjab, provided insights that the decline in cotton production was attributed to the lack of quality seeds and outdated technology, resulting in a 60 percent decrease in the crop’s yield.

Despite the challenges, efforts were being made to promote cotton production, with a focus on utilizing artificial intelligence and following the China model to meet cotton production targets. The minister noted substantial investments in promoting cotton and urged scientists to collaborate with international bodies through joint venture research programs to enhance cotton production. Cotton being a major crop for foreign exchange earnings, it warranted significant attention and efforts.

Secretary Agriculture of Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo also suggested seeking assistance from China and emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among local and international scientists in this endeavor.
