CPEC to protect and preserve Pakistan’s natural heritage: Speakers

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) promotes cultural exchanges between the two brotherly countries and soon CPEC will play an important role in identifying, protecting, and preserving cultural and natural heritage in Pakistan.

These were the views of speakers expressed at an event titled “World Cultural & Natural Heritage and Youth Creativity” held last week at China Study Center (CSC), University of Peshawar.

Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director of CSC said that investing in cultural heritage may be one of the best economic investments that a developing country can make. “CPEC is playing an important role in the identification, protection, and preservation of cultural and natural heritage in Pakistan,” he said.

According to Mr. Anwar, China-Pakistan Cultural and Educational Exchange Center (CPCEEC) was launched jointly by the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts (China) and the University of Education (Pakistan) on June 9, 2022. CPCEEC will help promote the cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan and artistic education for the two nations.

Prof. Dr. Fazlur-Rahman, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, UoP while highlighting the historical and ancient cultural heritage of Pakistan and China said that the latter was the custodian of a large number of ancient heritage and archeological sites which needs to be conserved so that they could survive the future generations.

Falak Naz Khalil, Department of Electronics, UoP said that the pillar of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRIand CPEC is the cultural exchange between Pakistan and China. “China is the oldest civilization that is the custodian of a rich culture and natural heritage,” he said.

Hira Ali of the Department of Arts and Design (A&D) gave a detailed presentation about the “World Heritage and Youth Creativity” Global VLOG Contest, China in which she along with students from the Arts and Design Department, UoP participated and secured 2nd position.

Global VLOG Contest is a competition organized by the International Center for Creativity and Sustainable Development under the auspices of UNESCO and co-organized by the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), China. It is a documentary contest in which young people from around the globe are invited to share their stories of world heritage through vlog.

At the end of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar thanked Professor Wang Yuhang for providing an opportunity for UoP to participate in this V-Log Competition and distributed appreciation certificates and cash prizes among the winning team.
